Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Sunday, Feb. 28: At 6:50 pm a deputy assisted the Ankeny police department with the reported theft of a vehicle that was taken without consent from a residence in the 1800 block of D Ave in Scranton Township. The deputy initiated a theft investigation at that time.
Saturday, Feb. 27: Routine activity reported.
Thursday, Feb. 26: At 10:42 am a deputy was dispatched to the intersection of 245th Street and Meadow Ave west of Jefferson for a reported two vehicle accident. Michael Lee Mourlam, 17, of Scranton was rounding the curve on Meadow Ave onto 245th St when his 2005 Dodge Neon drifted into the eastbound lane on 245th. His vehicle struck a 2001 Caterpillar motor grader owned by Greene County secondary roads and being driven Randy Allen Frantz, 53, of Grand Junction. No injuries were reported by either driver. The Greene County grader sustained no damage, but Mourlam’s car sustained an estimated $,3000 in damages. Mourlam was issued a citation for driving on the wrong side of a two way highway.

Tuesday, Feb. 24: At 7:31 am a deputy was advised that a 2012 Ford F-250 pickup truck owned by Thomas Robert Peckumn had been taken from his residence in the 1600 block of 267th St in Grant Township. An investigation was initiated into the theft of the pickup. At 8:18 am deputies were dispatched to 270th Street and Q Ave for the report of a vehicle that had run off the roadway and rolled into a farm field. After an investigation by deputies, the owner of the vehicle was determined. The license plates had been removed from the Chevy Blazer and the interior of the vehicle was stripped out to make a fire near the truck. It was at this time the Peckumn pickup, from the previous call, was located at S. Vine and W. Park St in Jefferson. Deputies determined that the driver of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer had walked across the farm field and had taken the Peckumn pickup in the early morning hours. At 11:55 am deputies determined the residence of the owner of the 1998 Chevy Blazer that was involved in the roll-over accident earlier in the day. Deputies went to a residence in the 800 block of S. Elm St in Jefferson and spoke with Collin Richards about his involvement with the accident. After an intensive interview with Collin Daniel Richards, 18, he did admit to being the driver of the Chevy Blazer and to the theft of the Peckumn pickup. At that time Richards did give consent for deputies to search the home for stolen property from the Peckumn pickup. Keys to the Peckumn truck and stolen CDs were found in the home. Richards was subsequently arrested and booked into the Greene County jail for theft- first degree, possession of marijuana-first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia*. He was also cited for failure to maintain control. At 4:08 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported two vehicle accident at 215th Street and Highway 144 north of Grand Junction. Robert Scott Borgeson, 43, of rural Jamaica was northbound on Highway 144 driving a 1975 Ford grain truck. He was attempting to turn left when Vicki Rose Hansen, 58, of Gowrie attempted to pass him on the left. Hanson stated that she did not realize she was approaching an intersection and was issued a citation for passing too close to an intersection. There were no injuries reported, but damage to Hansen’s 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was estimated to be $5,000. Only minor damage was reported to the Borgeson truck.
Monday, Feb. 23: At 10:54 pm a deputy initiated a traffic stop for speeding on 175th St just west of Highway 144 near Dana. After an investigation by the deputy, Joseph Robert Hupp, 22, of rural Scranton was subsequently arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense.
Sunday, Feb. 22: At 1:46 am a deputy was dispatched to the report of a male subject along the roadway on Highway 30 near County Road P-33 (S Ave) west of Grand Junction. The deputy located the male and determined that the male had a valid warrant through Greene County. Eric Christopher Rosenow, 31, was arrested and transported by the deputy to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.

Friday, Feb. 20: At 9:37 am two deputies and Grand Junction fire and rescue provided traffic control while a semi-tractor trailer was removed from the roadway on Highway 144 and 150th St north of Dana.
Thursday, Feb. 19: At 4 pm, a deputy was advised of a juvenile female in the company of several male subjects at the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. The female has been prohibited from associating with the two males. At 4:26 pm a deputy was advised by a resident in the 700 block of North Street in Churdan of prescription medication and cough syrup with codeine being taken from the home.
Wednesday, Feb. 18: At 2:15 pm a deputy investigated a reported assault that occurred in the 500 block of West Main Street in Grand Junction. At 3:10 pm three members of the Greene County sheriff’s office, along with two Sac City police officers executed two search warrants at a residence in the 700 block of Madison St in Scranton. After an investigation and search of the residence, Nicole Marie Souder, 39, and James John Souder, 48, both residing at that address, were subsequently arrested for theft-second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple controlled substance violations*. At 4:08 pm the chief deputy sheriff investigated a single vehicle accident on the Elm Street curve just south of Scranton. Kurtis James Bednarik, 19,of rural Jefferson was westbound on Elm St when he lost control of his 19987 BMW 5281 and struck a mail box. Bednarik was not injured and no damage estimate was determined at that time. At 6:40 pm a deputy was advised of a car-deer accident that occurred in the 100 block of County Road E-19 (130th St) in Cedar Township. The driver advised that he would come to the Law Enforcement Center to pick up a DOT report form and asked the deputy to check the status of the deer. The deputy did find the deer deceased upon his arrival.
Tuesday, Feb. 17: At 8:50 am a deputy, the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo conducted a search of lockers at the school in Churdan. The K-9 indicated on one locker and this lead to a search warrant being issued to search a rural residence in the 1000 block of 130th St in Highland Township. Four members of the Greene County sheriff’s office executed the search warrant at the residence.
Monday, Feb. 16: At 2:42 pm a deputy was asked to speak with a resident in the 1000 block of Cedar St in Scranton regarding a phone scam she received. The male caller stated that an arrest warrant will be issued if she does not comply with giving him her personal information over the phone to settle an IRS tax evasion case. She did not comply with furnishing her personal information that the caller wanted. At 3:10 pm a deputy and a DHS case worker are investigating a harassment concern involving a child custody issue in the 2200 block of A Ave in Willow Township.
Sunday, Feb. 15: At 4:43 pm a deputy was dispatched for the report of a car throwing trash onto Highway 30 near the Carroll County – Greene County line. An Iowa State Patrol officer and a Carroll County deputy sheriff located the vehicle in Ralston and questioned the driver.
Saturday, Feb. 14: At 8:39 pm, a deputy assisted several JPD officers during a burglary investigation by transporting a male subject to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.
Friday, Feb. 13: At 10:05 am the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted the JPD with the search of a vehicle on Highway 30 near M Ave west of Jefferson. A female was arrested by the police officer at that time. At 4:33 pm a deputy was dispatched to a two vehicle accident that occurred in the 2200 block of Highway 4 (Neola Ave) in Franklin Township. Megan Marie Smith, 31, of Bagley was southbound. She was following Dennis Dale Stucky, 33, of Fort Dodge, who was driving a pickup truck pulling a trailer. Stucky slowed to turn right into a driveway. Smith failed to slow and struck Stucky’s trailer. No injuries were reported. Damage to Smith’s 2002 Honda CRV and to Stucky’s 2008 Chevrolet pickup was estimated to be $2000.
Thursday, Feb. 12: At 7:44 am a deputy while on routine patrol in Scranton discovered smoke coming from the roof line of a home in the 800 block of Main St. The Scranton fire department was dispatched and extinguished the fire. Lester Johns, the home owner, was inside the home at the time and was advised of the fire by the deputy and was directed to vacate. No damage estimate or origin of fire is known at this time. At 8:14 am a deputy was advised by a rural Churdan resident that she was involved in a money scam on Facebook. At 8:32 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton to investigate the report of criminal mischief to a screen door window. The deputy determined that the high wind may have caused the window to fall from the door. At 10:01 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with locating several male subjects that were subsequently arrested by Jefferson police officers.
Wednesday, Feb. 11: At 12:43 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief to a garage door in the 600 block of Jay St in Churdan. It appears that a vehicle struck the door, causing minor damage and drove away. At 1:35 pm a deputy investigated the theft of personal property from an unoccupied building site in the 1100 block of County Road E-53 (237th St) in Jackson Township. At 8:31 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction to investigate the report of harassment by phone.
Tuesday, Feb. 10: At 9:06 am a deputy assisted a Scranton resident with informing the Iowa Attorney General about a phone scam that she had received. She stated that the caller wanted her to go to the bank and get a certified check and mail to an address in Louisiana for charges incurred in winning $1.5 million from Publishers Clearing House. At 1:27 pm a deputy was dispatched to the report of illegal dumping of trash in the 1500 block of F Ave in Jackson Township. At 3:11 pm a deputy spoke with a Churdan resident in the 500 block of Head St about criminal mischief to the siding on her home. At 7:40 pm a deputy assisted a Carroll County deputy with a traffic stop in Scranton and the subsequent arrest of a male passenger in the car. The male subject had a felony arrest warrant from Sac County.
Monday, Feb. 9: At 1:40 pm a deputy was asked to investigate the report of a youth receiving alcohol from an adult in Scranton.
Sunday, Feb. 8: Routine activity reported.
Saturday Feb. 7: At 9 am the Iowa state Patrol and the Greene County sheriff’s office provided traffic control in Rippey for the BRR from Perry.
Friday, Feb. 6: At 7:34 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported single vehicle accident on Highway 144 (U Ave) near 200thSt north of Grand Junction. Nicole Terri Dentlinger, 19, of rural Coon Rapids stated that she was southbound on Highway 144 when she drove off the roadway and overcorrected, causing her 2004 Chevrolet Impala to enter the east ditch. Dentlinger was not injured, but her car sustained an estimated $1,500 in damages.
Thursday, Feb. 5: At 7:45 am a deputy was dispatched to an accident involving two semi-tractor trailers that had side swiped each other on Highway 30 near X Ave east of Grand Junction. A 2005 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer being driven by Aaron Donald Twedt, 45, of Ellsworth reported that he was westbound driving a 2005 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer when a semi-tractor trailer being driven by Jeremiah Isaiah Green, 31, of Lake City crossed the center line and struck his westbound rig. Neither driver reported any injuries, but the semi that Twedt was driving, which is owned by the SansGaard Group of Story City, sustained an estimated $20,000 in damages. Koster Grain of Carroll owns the semi Green was driving. Damages to that semi were estimated to be $10,000. Green was issued a citation for driving on the wrong side of a two way highway. At 8:32 am a deputy was dispatched to another accident involving two semi-tractor trailers on Highway 144 (U Ave) near 215th St north of Grand Junction. A semi-tractor trailer being driven by Timothy Ray Cummings, 61, of Grand Junction was northbound on Highway 144 driving a semi-tractor trailer when a southbound semi-tractor trailer driven by Eugene Dwyane Davis, 61, of Grand Junction sideswiped the mirror of the Cummings’ semi-tractor. Davis was hauling a John Deere planter. No injuries were reported and only minor damage was reported to Cummings’ semi. At 3:07 pm, a deputy was advised of a harassment concern in the 1000 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 4:01 pm the Calhoun County sheriff’s office asked a deputy to check for a male subject that may be in Greene County and has a valid arrest warrant in Calhoun County. At 4:22 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with checking an abandoned E-911 call in the 200 block of W. Harrison St while the JPD officer was on another call. At 6:15 pm a deputy assisted a probation officer with locating a male client in Scranton. At 6:26 pm a deputy spoke with a Paton resident about a Craig’s List scam. She had placed an ad on Craig’s List to sell an appliance for a certain amount of money. She then received a check in the mail for three times the asking price. She was then instructed to cash the check and keep the amount needed for her appliance and then give the larger amount of cash to the person picking up the appliance . The female was advised not to cash the check, as it was not a valid check and she would be out the appliance and a large amount of money.
Wednesday, Feb. 4: At 2:17 pm a deputy assisted with traffic control at a two vehicle accident on Highway 144 (U Ave) just north of the Highway 30 intersection. The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol. No injuries were reported and no damage estimates were given.
Tuesday, Feb. 3: At 7:33 am a deputy located and arrested Jacob Monroe Cullum, 29, of Paton on an arrest warrant for a violation of parole*. At 11:03 am a deputy was dispatched to investigate the report of a possible counterfeit $20 bill that was rejected by the clerk at the Casey’s General Store in Scranton. At 6:03 pm three deputies responded to a theft report at the Sparky’s One Stop in Rippey. The clerk advised that a male subject wearing a hoodie sweatshirt came into the store to purchase tobacco products and as the clerk was giving him change from the cash register he attempted to reach into the cash drawer for paper currency. The male subject was estimated to be 5’ 4”, in his early 30s, with a full mustache, camouflage hoodie sweatshirt, blue jeans and bright blue tennis shoes. The male then left the store running south on 3rd Street. No weapons were ever shown by the assailant. The cashier estimated the loss of money to be $22.
Monday, Feb. 2: At 1:08 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest of Ricardo Emmanuel Rodriquez, 29, of Jefferson, after Rodriquez was involved in a traffic accident in the 100 block of W. State St in Jefferson. The deputy charged Ricardo Rodriquez with operating while intoxicated-third or subsequent offense and child endangerment*.
Sunday, Feb. 1: At 4:06 am a deputy checked an unoccupied vehicle that was off the roadway on Highway 30 near Eaton Ave east of Scranton. At 1:24 pm a deputy checked a vehicle that had slid off the roadway on Highway 30 near T Ave west of Grand Junction. The deputy provided traffic control while the vehicle was removed from the ditch. At 1:58 pm a deputy checked another reported vehicle in the ditch on Highway 144 several miles north of Highway 30. The van was tagged for removal at a safer time. At 3:14 pm a deputy was dispatched to an occupied vehicle that had become disabled after hitting a large snowdrift on County Road P-46 (X Ave) and 100th St in Paton Township. Three persons were transported to the Sparky’s One Stop in Harcourt by the deputy. At 3:17 pm a deputy was advised that a stop sign in Grand Junction had been struck by a vehicle during snow removal. The city of Grand Junction was advised of the broken sign. At 3:36 a deputy was advised of a vehicle stuck in the middle of road in the 700 block of Stanton St in Scranton. The deputy advised the owner to remove the vehicle at a safer time. At 3:39 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department and an Iowa State Patrol officer with an arrest of a male subject in Jefferson after a foot pursuit by the police officer and the trooper.
